Sansa Fuze (G:) = Full of empty folders labeled MUSIC, PHOTO, VIDEO, etc. Removable Disk (H:) = got all my internal memory music files Removable Disk (F:) = please insert a disk in drive (F:) My new computer will only read it in MSC mode On my laptop, when I opened it in explorer, there were two folders: Internal Memory and External memory and it showed all my files in each.

And the battery is not user replaceable, despite SanDisk' s history to the contrary. All in all, you really can' t do better for the money.Same problem. The controls themselves feel as if they might develop mechanical problems sometime down the line. The UI is a bit dated and sometimes finicky with regards to the scroll wheel. Build quality is what you' d expect out of a low-cost player (had to return my first two due to bad headphone jacks out of the box). Plenty of other things help catapult this player up the charts including an FM radio, microSD expansion card slot, 5 band equalizer, podcast and audiobook support, and an easy to use, hardware controlled, interface. That said, everything' s not completely rosy. Video playback is kinda gimmicky, but as far as this reviewer is concerned, you carry a PMP for audio first and video second. A great range of audio codecs backed by one of the nicest chipsets on the market make for a robust player that should please all but the most stringent Apple fanboy. That said, as far as traditional PMPs are concerned, you' d be hard pressed to find something better for your money.

The two things I find to be glaring omissions from the Fuze are crossfade and line-in recording. Doesn' t seem to work with many video formats at all.Audio output level is fairly low - don' t try listening to this puppy with poor headphones on the subway.

Occasionally, the ID3 tags are not read properly and my music files get lost in a a sea of unknown garbage.Doesn' t work with apple audio/video formats.

This would be a be a great feature for podcast listeners if it actually worked.Other problems that I have (probably because I' m a Mac user) is that all the icon image files get thrown into the unknown folder so I have about 700 unknown files in there. In order to actually delete the file, you have to remove it while it' s connected to a computer. That is, the available memory stays the same. It has a great feature that allows you to delete files directly from the player itself but unfortunately, it does not actually remove file from the drive, just the directory. Unfortunately, every time you disconnect the player from your computer, it takes a very long time to rebuild the database of included files. It' s a solid utility music and video drive that' s expandable with microSD - you can drop it and it still works.I' m a frequent podcast listener so I am constantly adding and removing songs from the player. FM radio, internal mic for recording (poorly). It' s easy to recommend this against Apple' s low end product as it is much less expensive and far more capable. I believe it may support alternative firmwares such as rockbox as well, but there is really no need to bother.Overall, this is a great little MP3 player. Make certain to get the latest firmware update, as it includes some notable improvements like acceleration in the menu scrolling. Aside from regular audio playback it also has separate areas for podcasts and audio books. That said, it could not be as small as it is nor as inexpensive if it had a bigger screen.Software on the player is great. I would not recommend this as a mobile video player. That said, I suspect it may have been added simply to avoid infringing copy rights.Video playbackis not at its prime here, the Fuze has a small, low resolution screen which is very glossy. Sansa did use it to add a few features but could have done without. The charging cable is USB at one end, and a proprietary connector at the other. The navigation wheel on it is complemented by both a center and external button, adding a bit of complexity to navigation compared to an 'i' device. The player also has a FM radio and a microphone for voice recording, so it' s not a bad choice if you are still using a micro-cassette recorder either or NPR lover. The navigation wheel will actually spin with a very nice feel. The Fuze features expandable storage, unlike its 'i' brethren. The codec support is practically hard to beat for audio. There are some features relatively unique to this player. The Sansa Fuze is a great audio player both for audiophiles and for those who are looking for a casual player.
